We spotted this stat today, that the average FICO score for a conventional mortgage in the US is at 755 - and since the average FICO score is 711, a conventional mortgage is still very difficult for people to get. (Source)

Which, with 2008 fresh in memory, might not be a very bad thing. But it is not too good either - this is a tough balance to achieve and is a critical piece to get right.
