IDC: 1.2 Billion 'Smart Connected Devices' Shipped In 2012

Here is one number we have been looking forward to - yes, we had spotted the total number of android devices sold so far and the number of iOS devices sold so far - but how was 2012 as a year overall, for all the smart devices out there? Was there a significant jump in these numbers?

IDC had all these answers - a total of 1.2 billion smart devices were shipped in 2012, a jump of 29.1 percent - In Q42012 alone, a total of 367.7 million desktop PCs, portable PCs, tablets, and smartphones – (a collective view IDC refers to as "Smart Connected Devices") were shipped, up 28.3% from the prior year.

Huge numbers these, makes the digital economy landscape more exciting than ever. The reach is getting wider, and the tools are getting better. Interesting times, these.
