Kickstarter 2013 Statistics: Half-A-Billion Dollars, 20K Projects

For a reasonably new investing trend based on crowdfunding, these are huge numbers. We spotted this stat today, that in 2013, roughly $480 million went to 19,911 projects- a big increase over 2012, which saw $319,786,629 and 18,109 projects (Source)

This has definitely changed the funding landscape for new ventures. The detail is this - a specific 'type' of ventures - niche hardware and tools / hobby projects have seen a huge boom with this new trend. That is the piece that has been taken over by Kickstarter.
