Stunning: U.S. Consumers Leave $41B on Unused Gift Cards

The gift card economy is huge. We already knew that. Here is what we did not know - the size of the unused gift card economy. We spotted this today:

"Even though nearly $30 billion of gift cards were given over the holiday season this year, there's no guarantee that money will ever be spent with retailers.
That's because U.S. consumers have left more than $41 billion on unused gift cards purchased since 2005, according to statistics from analyst Brian Riley of the TowerGroup research firm."
